The Association of Cricket Statisticians and Scorers of India founded in 1987 by a group of statisticians, historians and an umpire, inspired from the weekly Talks on Cricket by ex-Test cricketer Mr. Vijay Merchant, a keen historian and statistician himself.
From inception the Association published a journal ANKA to encourage statistical research articles specially of domestic cricket. This was a great boost to statisticians to publish their works which would normally not be accepted by newspapers and magazines and hence remain unpublished, but would be very interesting to statisticians. This generated a lot of Indian and overseas memberships.
To encourage the Scorers, the Association conducted Scorers’ Course and Examination at Mumbai (10), Pune, Rajkot (2), Indore, Surat, Visakhapatnam, Ahmedabad (2) and Nagpur. The aim was to encourage, educate and guide the fraternity into a correct method, encourage linear method of scoring and guide the scorers into computer scoring.
